Meet the neighbor behind the clean, safe, and welcoming streets.
Gabe Fedor came to MDLDC because the mission matched his own: supporting communities through smart, everyday care of public space. “I’ve always been passionate about creating clean, safe, and welcoming urban environments,” he says. The chance to lead that work—and do it with a crew that “grew up in Denver and takes real pride in shaping its future”—is what keeps him here.
A day that stuck: the first Chinkapin Oak

Ask Gabe for a favorite moment and he goes straight to trees. The first he planted—a Chinkapin oak—“instantly brought life back to the street.” Planting, for him, is a long-game move that improves air quality, cools the city, and gives something back to the next generation. He carries a line with him that sums it up: “The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.”
Small details, big difference
Gabe thinks in block-by-block improvements: a clean sidewalk here, a shaded bench there, a well-lit crosswalk at the corner. Put together, they change how people feel. When spaces are comfortable and cared for, residents take pride, visitors linger, and businesses thrive. That’s the ripple effect he aims for every shift.
“At MDLDC, details aren’t just details, they’re the difference between ordinary and exceptional spaces.”
People skills you can take home
This work sharpened Gabe’s people skills in unexpected ways. From quick hellos to giving directions, he’s seen how small, everyday interactions build trust and strengthen community—on the job and at home.

When the work gets tough
Out in the field, motivation comes from remembering who’s counting on the team: the small business opening its doors, the family walking the block, the first-time visitor forming an impression of Denver. That responsibility fuels follow-through, even on the hard days.
A favorite story: Rudy and the hot dog stand
Gabe lights up recalling Rudy, a former MDLDC teammate who now runs his own hot dog stand. Rudy shared how his five years with MDLDC shaped his work ethic and commitment to community. For Gabe, hearing that arc—from crew member to small-business owner—was humbling and motivating.
Why MDLDC?
“MDLDC has been community-focused since 1978,” Gabe says. Unlike for-profit contractors, resources go back into the neighborhoods served. That mission-driven culture makes the work collaborative, high-pride, and deeply rewarding.
Looking ahead
With growing autonomy and a citywide lens, Gabe sees MDLDC not only maintaining spaces but advising on planning and sustainability—helping districts meet goals, respond to community needs, and build a stronger, more connected Denver.
